As is well known, Chinese culture is vast and profound, with a history of over 5000 years。 Among these many cultures, mythological stories are undoubtedly a unique existence, largely composed of people’s imagination and some legends。 These cultures also accompany our Chinese people from generation to generation。 Even now, they are still loved by people。
Firstly, in ancient times, people divided heaven and earth into four directions: east, south, west, and north。 And stationed in the east are the Azure Dragon, the White Tiger in the west, the Vermilion Bird in the south, and the Xuanwu in the north。 These four divine beasts are regarded as auspicious beasts and are stationed in all directions。 In the Han Dynasty, these four divine beasts were integrated into Taoist culture and became the Four Spirit Divine Kings。 Later, with the development of the times, these four divine beasts penetrated into industries such as solar terms, feng shui, and architecture, appearing in every corner of our lives。
Moreover, as these four divine beasts became increasingly popular in culture, people also gave them names and their respective legendary stories。
Qinglong was named Mengzhang, which is the Taoist god of Mengzhang。 In the ancient book ‘Huainanzi’, it was recorded that the one who could make the gods kneel down was not more precious than the Qinglong。 It was also at this time that the Qinglong held the most prestigious position and became the leader of the four great divine beasts。 And because the attribute of Qinglong is wood, it is also known as the benevolent god representing the vitality of spring。
Zhuque is named Lingguang, also known as the Taoist Lingguang Divine Lord, because its attribute is fire, so its color is red, representing the scorching heat of summer。 Many people associate the Vermilion Bird with the Phoenix, even thinking that they are the same species。 In fact, they are two completely different individuals, without even a blood relationship。 Moreover, phoenixes can be reborn from the ashes, while sparrows cannot, because sparrows represent an immortal existence。
Xuanwu is named Zhiming, also known as the God of Zhiming in Taoism。 Due to its attribute of water, it represents winter。 The Xuanwu image we see is actually composed of two parts: a snake and a turtle。 It is a relatively special one among the four divine beasts, and its defense power is also amazing。 At the same time, it represents longevity。
