Science Couple Struggles with Baby Naming

        Today, let’s talk about the origin of our name Eileen

        Since the day we found out about our baby girl during pregnancy, we decided to name ourselves。 At first, we also thought about citing classics, but unfortunately, the two of us science and engineering students haven’t read our ancestors’ classic works well for many years, and our foundation in writing essays in high school is almost lost。

据说汉人取名都讲究“女诗经 男楚辞 文论语 武周易”可惜呀,作为汉人,以上四本著作,除了为了考试学过(也都忘的差不多了),其他的都没读过,所以也不敢轻易的引用.我自己喜欢泰戈尔的:生如夏花般绚烂,死如秋叶般静美.年轻的时候要活出自己的绚烂,到暮年的时候活成一种有故事的厚重美.所以想取名叫夏秋,正好巧不巧的我们出生的时候也是夏末秋初,这样也好理解,自认为很完美,可是还是遭到了反对,在家里人看来这个名字其实挺土,还不如叫夏花,可是我觉得更土,所以就要另起炉灶.

       我老公特别喜欢“琳”这个字,是美玉的意思.其他的字也研究过,我老公甚至还研究过声调,讲究平仄,但也都没有一个很满意的名字.后来他给取名叫王琳予:给予王家的美玉的意思.寓意挺好,但是叫出来太接地气,怕以后被人以“淋雨”调侃,被我果断的否决了.所以直到生,我们就敲定了这一个“琳”字.

       生完开出生证明就要有名字了,这时候就显得有些着急了.当时我老公大伯家大哥的女儿取名的时候也是很纠结,我就建议他取名叫王爱文(大嫂名字带文),这是个有意义的名字,大哥最终敲定叫王艾雯,我就从这下手取名叫爱琳,从Eileen音译而来,(Eileen含义光明\光辉的人;也含义“海伦之光”,海伦是希腊神话中的美女.)这符合我和老公对女儿一定要长得好看的期许.也有王家爱这块美玉的寓意.后来我老公又研究“艾”字有美好的女子的意思,就这样定下了王艾琳这个名字.这样就有传承的想法在里面了.
