18 Practical and Timeless Folk Feng Shui Sayings

Yang House Feng Shui

The I Ching States: When one is in a dilemma, one must seek change; when there’s change, there will be openness; and with openness comes longevity。 While destiny (bao) is set for life, feng shui represents the variables that can influence one’s fate。 Understanding one’s destiny brings joy, while understanding one’s circumstances leads to success。

According to The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Housekeeping, it says: “Good land fosters lush crops; favorable housing brings prosperity。” These ten words succinctly capture the essence of feng shui。

This emphasizes that good housing primarily relies on a favorable location。 First, evaluate the external environment, and then consider the internal layout。

01. Residential properties must have square front and back facades。 If the southwest corner is excessively wide, it may lead to infertility in the family; If the southern corner is excessively spacious, it could attract an elderly son-in-law or bring misfortune to young boys.

02. Avoid having a bridge within 10-20 meters of the southwest corner。 This is known as “White Tiger Probing the Head,” and it brings severe misfortune。 A house with such a bridge in the west will cause its descendants to suffer。

03. Avoid placing deities in the main hall, as it may lead to unforeseen incidents。 Instead, place them in the northwest corner or cover them with a cloth。

04. Avoid having graves in the south of the house。 If within 5-40 meters without a river, it is considered extremely inauspicious。 A single grave is called “teas,” and multiple graves are referred to as “yin deception yang” (a term implying an imbalance between yin and yang), which harms young children and girls。

05. Avoid constructing wells within 20 meters of the house。 A well in the north may lead to dangerous incidents like accidents, while one in the south could result in the family having no male descendants。

06. A house with a wide back and narrow front is considered an unlucky home, specifically called a “knife-shaped” house。 It may harm children。

07. Avoid writing clutter under the bed in bedrooms。 Doing so for an extended period could lead to miscarriages and frequent illnesses among women。

08. Avoid placing mirrors, especially decorative ones, at the head of the bed。 This may cause family members to suffer from headaches that are difficult to cure。

09. A stove located in the southwest may lead to health issues for the mother, causing her to feel uneasy and possibly ill。

10. Villas or large homes should not be built within 200 meters of a cemetery。 This is considered extremely inauspicious, as it disrupts the flow of qi and may lead to health problems for those living there。
